Our Senior Women's Team was developed in 2019 and was Coached by 2016 Premier Coach Peter Weston. Peter took the girls all the way through to a Preliminary Final but unfortunately did not make it past the line.

At the start of 2020 the club appointed a new coach Tim Cavanagh, Tim was the assistant coach of Pete for the girls in 2019. Tim has a strong history with football and a fantastic relationship with our Senior Women.

With our female program we want our women's program to be long and successful. This requires careful planning and a commitment from all major parties at the club.

We are excited to see where our Women's program goes in 2021 and the next coming years.

A message from our Coach of the Women's Team - Tim Cavanagh

"The best thing about the Women’s footy program at Ferntree Gully is the great balance of competitive spirit, continuing development and genuine fun. The commitment among the group to continually learn more about the nuances of the game, improve skills and keep getting better while always having a laugh along the way is a joy to witness. The club is committed to giving all Ferntree Gully Women’s footy players a great environment to keep growing as footballers and get the best out of themselves on the field. The club intends to add a second senior women’s side in the coming years as well as further enhancing the pathway from the junior girls through to senior women’s footy at Ferntree Gully. It’s a great club for any women’s footballer looking to get the best out of themselves and have fun along the way."

Player Testimonies

At the time I decided to join the Gully football club I didn’t realise how much it would actually change my life, I’ve met some amazing friends that I’ll keep forever. We’ve bonded as a playing group with the awesome support from our leadership team. The woman’s team is a place of laughter, development and progression. You’re always greeted with smiling faces, It’s the highlight of my week heading down to the oval for training and games.

I love the gully because I have been made to feel apart of a team on the first day of training. I also love the the way in which we train and the interaction the coach Tim has with us as players. I came to the gully after playing my first year of footy for a different club, I felt I needed a change and a different environment to work on my skills as a player and so far that’s what I have for and I have found a deeper love for footy that I didn’t know I had and I can’t wait to get back out there with my gully girls and show the other teams what we are made of

Being part of the senior women’s team and the wider FTGFNC community is like having an extended family. From different walks of life, everyone at FTG unites to share in a joint passion and it’s the best feeling knowing you are a part of something special. Joining the women’s team has been one of the best decisions I’ve made- it’s been an amazing opportunity to forge friendships and the club’s values and culture paves the way for an environment to learn and develop skills both on and off the field.

Erin Naylor (Vice Captain)

The reason I love the gully is the great atmosphere. Everyone in the women’s side is there to play a bit of footy, have some fun and keep fit. We all know when we need to get serious on game day but never fail to let loose with the girls and have an overall good time! We have been blessed with great coaches and team mates and can hopefully have the chance to run out on the ground sometime this season!
